Important Notes for Oxygenation
1. Check doctor's Orders for O2 Administration
2. Preferable Position for O2 Administration: Semi-Fowler's Position. to enchance lung
expansion
3. Excessive Oxygen Administration can cause oxygen narcosis, so it is important to regulate
oxygen flow accurately base on Doctor's Order
4. Since Oxygen supports combustion and it can cause fire, Place a "No Smoking Sign" at the
Bedside
5. Tell the client and relatives to avoid use of alcohol, oil, greases near the client receiving O2
because these may further supports combustion
6. Humidify O2. Place sterile water into the oxygen humidifier to prevent dryness and irritation
of mucous membrane in the airways
7. Lubricate nares with water-soluble lubricant to soothe the muous membrane
8. Assess effectiveness of O2 Therapy. Check VS, note quality of respiartion, evaluate arterial
blood gas results
9. Always make a relevant documentation
